Here are a few great items that have helped me kick off this school year successfully.  None of these are paid affiliates or links that give me any kickback.

Life has swirled by this summer since we left Michigan on Memorial weekend and landed in Chicago.  We have had some wonderful celebrations these past three months with a graduations, birthdays and exploring a new city.

We have also had some struggles this summer with saying good-bye unexpectedly to my dear grandmother, transitioning to a new work schedule for my husband and dealing with some car issues.  We started school six weeks ago in order to prepare for the arrival of ou...

After the first week in January, I started putting away the Christmas decorations.  Since I was already in the storage room and moving boxes around I thought, "Why not start slowly packing now?".  A few ideas came to mind of why I should start so early; 1. We knew we had to move sometime late spring/early summer so it wasn't a matter of if we were moving.  2. The weather was frigid which made our nature time outdoors shorter.  3.  I wanted to implement a new moving system and this would give...

After Christmas, I asked two of my good friends that live nearby if they would want to participate in a "No spend January" challenge.  I saw a few debt free Instagram accounts promoting this challenge and knew I would be taking a break from social media, but still wanted to participate in some way.

My friends agreed they wanted to participate in the challenge; however, we needed to clarify some rules.  We agreed we didn't necessarily want to restrict ourselves to buy nothing for t...

Ever have a hard time getting motivated to clean or organize an area?

Here is the classic thought process:

"Ugh, I really don't want to do that right now."

"It is going to take so much time, I will do it later."

"I will never get it done in the amount of time I have right now."

Decluttering, cleaning, organizing any space can be daunting at times. Implementing a variety of timing methods may reduce the brain chatter of excuses and help get the job done quickly.

Here are a few ideas that I have...

Last week, I have the privledge of speaking at a local MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meeting.  A third of the way into the presentation I asked everyone to be brave and vulnerable and empty their purses right there on the table for everyone to see.  To my surprise, the moms were all in and began going through their purses.

We took five minutes to dump whatever you had with you: a diaper bag, a wristlet, a purse, anything that carried your keys, cards and lipstick and organize.  I put gr...

I had a tough day last week.  You know, one of those days when you get one kid settled and the next starts crying or arguing.  Lets just say it was a day that everyone napped, even the eight year old.

After I got everyone in bed, I hopped on my phone. I deserved a few minutes of sanity right? A few people I follow on Instagram were talking about putting their phone on airplane mode for the day because of a Ted talk they saw.  I was intrigued.   I watched a video entitled...

This article originally was posted in 2018.  A year later, I utilize the same Christmas card recycling system.  It is a joy to keep the meaning of Christmas around all year.  This year for Christmas my boys and I all worked together and created handmade cards.  It was a lengthy process, but also a great way for them to know how much work it takes in creating things.  My younger boys helped to cut the paper and my oldest painted.  I don't think I will ever second guess sending a Christmas...

Well, it is not Monday, but I wanted to share a few ideas about gift giving since it is that time of year.

As a family that practices minimalism we do not oppose gifts.  Let me repeat, we do not oppose getting or giving gifts.  In fact, I love giving gifts to family and friends.  We give gifts to the piano teacher, karate instructors, the yard guys, our neighbors, the grandparents and a few others.

The gifts we give are usually consumable such as; a homemade

dessert, spic...

When we go for a check up at the ENT and he asks my five year old, "What grade are you in?" and "What is your teachers name?, my son snickers and points to me.

"We homeschool, so he better know his teachers name." I answer for my son.

"Oh." The physician responds and the subject is dropped.

As a homeschool mom you run into this in various situations during the day when you show up with several school aged kids during school hours.

After several years of this line of questionin...
